Did you know you can install custom fonts on your iPad or iPhone? If you use apps like Procreate, being able to add in custom fonts is a game changer. Adding fonts to your Apple device is quick and simple once you know how. So let’s begin.
Step 1: Download a Font to Your iPad
First, find and download the font you want to use. You can get fonts from trusted sites like Dottie Digitals, Creative Fabrica, DaFont, or Google Fonts. Your iPhone or iPad must be running iOS 13 or later.
Once you hit download, the file will usually appear in your Files app under “Downloads.” The majority of fonts will download in a .zip folder. To unzip it, all you need to do is tap on the icon and it will make a separate unzipped version. (If you keep tapping it, it will make multiple copies.) In the unzipped folder you should be able to see the font formats which usually come in .OTF and .TTF.
Step 2: Install a Font Management App
Next, you need to install a font management app. This is because Apple doesn’t allow direct installation of fonts. There are a few popular options that are free to use including iFont and Font Diner. If you want a good paid-for option, AnyFont is usually a good bet. Play around and try out the free versions before committing.
Step 3: Import Your Font into the Font App
Simply open your chosen font management app and select Import or Files and select the font you have downloaded. Choose either the .OTF or .TTF file. We always recommend using the OTF file. Once you have imported the font into your font management app, you’ll be ready to install it to your device.
Step 4: Install the Font on Your iPad
In your font management app:
- Tap Install in iFont
- You’ll be prompted to open Settings
- Tap Allow to download the configuration profile
- Go to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management
- Tap the profile name under “Downloaded Profile”
- Tap Install (you may need to enter your device passcode)
- Confirm by tapping Install again
Your font is now fully installed and ready to use in compatible apps.
Step 5: Use the Font in Cricut Design Space or Other Apps
Once the font is installed, it will appear in the font menu in apps that support custom fonts. Many apps, including Cricut Design Space (iPad version), Procreate, and Canva, allow you to get creative with multiple custom fonts.
