How to Install Fonts in Cricut Design Space (Beginner Guide)

Cricut Design Space has a good range of fonts already accessible, however, if you’ve fallen in love with a particular font, being able to cut it on your Cricut machine is an essential lesson to learn. The good news is adding custom fonts into Cricut Design Space is so easy, and once you know how to do it, you can add hundreds!

Can You Add Your Own Fonts to Cricut Design Space?

Yes, Cricut Design Space allows you to add and use any font you install on your device. This means you can get super creative with your designs and make bespoke items no one else will have.

Which Font Files Work in Cricut Design Space?

Cricut Design Space allows both OTF (OpenType Font) and TTF (TrueType Font). You only need to install one of these files on your device, although you may be able to see both when you download the font. We always recommend installing the OTF over the TTF. This is because the OTF file allows for more extra features than TTF files. Not all fonts have extra features—it just depends how the font was created.

While we recommend the OTF for access to special features, you won’t be able to access them directly in Design Space. To learn how to use extra features in Cricut Design Space, click here.

How to Install Fonts on Your Device

To install the font for Cricut Design Space, you must first install the font on your device. This is slightly different for Windows and Mac:

Once you have installed the font on your device, close Cricut Design Space if you haven’t already, and reopen it.
Next, click Text to add a text box to your canvas. Highlight your text and select System at the top of the sidebar.
All of the fonts installed on your device will appear here for you to scroll through.

Troubleshooting Font Issues in Design Space

If you can’t find your font in Design Space, make sure the font is fully installed—not just downloaded. You can check this by opening up another program like Word or Notepad.

Usually, the main issue is having Cricut open as you install the font. Simply close and reopen it and your new font should appear.
Finally, double-check that you are looking through the System Fonts tab and not Cricut’s font tab (this is what it defaults to when opened).

    FAQ

Do I need Cricut Access to use custom fonts?
No! You can use any font you have installed on your device for free.

Will my font work on mobile (iOS/Android)?
Cricut Design Space mobile app does not support installing new fonts. Custom fonts need to be installed on a desktop or laptop.

Can I use fonts for commercial projects?
Each font will come with its own license, so you need to check you have the correct one before selling anything with the font on.
