Exciting times for us crafters—Cricut have released two new machines: the Maker 4 and Explore 4. These fab upgrades bring faster cutting speeds, better sensors, and new capabilities. In this post, we’ll explain all about the Maker 4 and Explore 4, what’s new, how they compare, and which one is best for you.
✂️ Cricut Maker 4 Overview
The Maker 4 has all the great qualities of the Maker 3 but is even better! Similarly to the Maker 3, the Maker 4 still cuts over 300 materials including fabric, leather, chipboard, and wood. It’s still compatible with all the same tools as before, but is now twice the speed!
The Maker 4 now has a new optical sensor for better Print Then Cut, which can even work on colored paper—unlike before. It also has the same matless cutting with Smart Materials capabilities as the Maker 3, and can cut up to 12 ft in length.
✂️ Cricut Explore 4 Overview
The Explore 4 has everything that the Explore Air 3 had—and even more. With the Explore 4, you can cut 100+ materials — perfect for vinyl, cardstock, iron-on, and paper (but not wood or fabric—you’ll need the Maker for those).
It is compatible with Smart Materials, which allow for matless cutting. The Explore 4 is twice the speed of the last model and also has a new optical sensor for Print Then Cut, allowing for more precise cuts. This machine is best for beginners and everyday craft projects.
