How to Install a TTF or OTF Font on Mac

New fonts can be a game changer for your projects. If you’ve found the perfect font that you can’t wait to get started using on your Mac, you’re in the right place. Installing a font can sound complicated, but it’s actually so easy and can be done in a matter of minutes! So whether you want to install a .TTF or an .OTF, let’s begin.

How to Install Fonts on a Mac

Download the font. This should appear in your Downloads folder and will be a zip file. Fonts are in zip folders because it’s the best way to transfer multiple files at once.

Unzip the folder by double-clicking it. Click here for more info on how to unzip files.

Go to the unzipped file and double-click on the OTF file. You can use the TTF if you prefer, but we always recommend using the OTF when available.

Once you have double-clicked, a preview window will appear with an install button.

    Press Install.

Restart any programs you are currently using that you wish to use the font on, such as Adobe or Inkscape.

Once you have installed the font, if you are still having any trouble finding the font, try restarting your device. Then you should be ready to get creative.
